Our Story

Our Story

Like Tasmania’s beautiful gum trees, the Allure Tasmania vision seeded from the ashes of bushfire and the dust of drought.

In the summer of 2013, bushfires devastated south east Tasmania. More than 190 homes, 100 businesses and thousands of livestock and wildlife were impacted by fire, including the Allure lands. The land, community and economy struggled to recover; with the task made more difficult by years of drought.  Already recording the state’s highest unemployment rate, including the highest youth unemployment, in 2020 the South East lost an additional 15.1% of jobs, due to the impacts of COVID-19—the most severe loss experienced in Tasmania.

Born and raised in the South East, local farmer Jacinta Young saw an opportunity not only to aid regional financial recovery, but to rekindle local pride and purpose, by developing luxury accommodation on each of her three grazing properties, with a plan to diversify her lands and help the bush and its people.

Never one to dream small, Jacinta created the Allure Tasmania vision:  three unique spa retreats located among the rolling farmlands, majestic forests, World Heritage areas and pristine waters of the South East and Tasman Peninsula.  Offering an unparalleled range of one-of-a-kind experiences, Allure aspires to provide visitors with memories of special ‘Allure moments’ that will last a lifetime. The epitome of laid-back luxury, the Lodges and Retreats include signature restaurants offering gourmet seasonal, organic local produce and the finest local wines and spirits; amazing adventures among the region’s breathtaking natural and cultural wonders; and hands-on farming experiences that allow guests to feel what it is to be a ‘true local’ living on the land.

Immersed in nature, Allure’s guests are offered a front-row-seat to spectacular natural light shows as bursts of electric-blue, bioluminescent “sea sparkle” appear in the pristine waters of Norfolk Bay, or the southern sky is set aglow by the dancing lights of the Aurora Australis.  From the soaring height of an ancient dolomite cliff, or whilst lounging on the deck of their private villa, guests can delight in unique natural phenomena like the annual migration of the majestic Southern Wright whales, or dolphins and seals sporting in the sparkling Allure waters.  Exploration of Allure’s bushland is rewarded by encounters with Tasmania’s iconic native creatures, or the chance to watch a rare mating pair of endangered Tasmanian Wedge-tailed eagles raising their precious chicks in the wild.

One-of-a-kind farm-gate experiences allow guests to Jackaroo or Jillaroo for a day on a working merino sheep farm, lend a hand at the boutique vineyard, tend to gentle cattle and their wide-eyed calves, or learn the secrets of bee-keeping at the apiary. Treasured mementos of this hard work may include an item crafted from Allure’s own superfine merino wool, a bottle of Allure’s signature gin or a pot of delicious bush honey from the Allure hives.

Allure’s lodges provide the ultimate luxury escape for wilderness-lovers and adventurers, whether they be fishers, surfers, hikers, mountain-bikers, golfers, foodies or history buffs. Offering experiences to delight every guest, the best of the region lies at Allure’s doorstep: pristine, white-sand beaches; stately colonial townships; the haunting starkness of the World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site; the dramatic sea cliffs of the Tasman National Park; the magnificent Three Capes wilderness trails; the treacherous Shipstern Bluff surf beach; the picturesque Tasman Golf Club that features a 100m chasm at the 8 th hole and—a short boat ride away —the vibrant city of Hobart, with its bustling markets, fine eateries and world-famous MONA gallery.

At the end of 2019, driven by her passion for the South East, Jacinta quit the corporate world and now works full-time on achieving the Allure dream. Through partnerships with local producers, providers, makers, story-tellers and artists, she aims to make Allure's Lodges and Retreats a drawcard to this spectacular corner of Tasmania: an exemplar of the region’s natural pristine beauty; a showcase for the talents of its remarkably resilient people; and a regenerative
force for the region.
